A Mountain of Japanese Animation Updates Arrived During the Festive Season

The Yuletide season provide a wealth of pursuits considerably more enjoyable than checking the latest news: opening presents, getting stuffed on holiday treats, and harnessing patience techniques to not arguing with relatives. I hope you managed to accomplish all these things and more. Nevertheless, the showbiz industry doesn't take a break, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Many thrilling news items came out during the break, and should you didn't see any, here is a summary of the biggest bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Moving Forward (In 2027)

Truly the most shocking revelation, the notorious controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man failed to halt further production. The show will come back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they might as well have dubbed it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will remain at the helm. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the start, which might be a good sign. But, the main art for the second cour is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This leads one to believe that, nowadays, they are probably teasing the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a standing for being an elite animation studio, making its mark not just for the exceptional quality of its productions but for the fair treatment of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not produced an anime adapted from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, arguably the best-known magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became a huge following when it launched in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the creator's health issues. When it came back with a more relaxed pace, the series demonstrated it maintained the fans' affection and positive sentiment, and now the community is thrilled about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up Now in the Works

Kingdom is the top-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only recently got an English translation, but the anime has been going on for years, and season 6 was yet another excellent entry. It turns out that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in production, and it will probably premiere in 2026.

Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

One more studio famous for the artistic merit of its work, Science Saru has delivered masterpieces of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an influential woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and captivating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my must-watch list.

Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Second Season

Right after the release of the final episode of the first season, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be getting a second season. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific air date has yet to be revealed.
