Her Royal Highness's Traditional Yuletide Carol Concert Pays Tribute to Charity Helpers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her customary festive musical service at Westminster Abbey, with a congregation comprising members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.

The sizable congregation will hear a selection of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from actors such as Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Focusing on Kindness and Compassion

The focus of the service, held in the candle-lit Abbey on the afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Among the guests will be Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose daughter died of a tumour, and who founded an organisation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a terminally ill child.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often discreetly and without words, and without any expectation or recognition, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," the Princess expressed in a message before the festive gathering.

A Steady Comeback

The royal has been undertaking her own gradual return to official duties after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Musical Talent and Access

Those coming to the Abbey will be entertained by budding artists supported by the Future Talent charity, co-founded by the late Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for musical tuition.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been assisted by the organisation, with funding assisting with instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "amazing" to be playing at tonight's service.

"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now studying at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to develop their musical skills.

Generations Gathering

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who performs on the brass instrument, will likewise attend the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many important people," she said.

Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include young Saphia Turner, nine, recipient of a youth community award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to collect donations for food banks.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been decorated with custom-created holiday decorations, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Among the musical performers will be singer Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be broadcast on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
