Man Who Reached For Ariana Grande during Red Carpet Event Barred from Singapore
An individual of Australian nationality who jumped over a barricade and reached for Hollywood star Ariana Grande has been expelled and prohibited from Singapore.
The man, 26, was given a sentence to over a week in detention for causing a public disturbance and has now been "prohibited from returning to Singapore," the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority stated to Singaporean press.
He forced his way past photographers and charged at the actress and singer, who was present at the regional launch for Wicked: For Good on November 13. Co-performer Cynthia Erivo wrestled him away from Grande.
Wen has a history of causing disturbances at events and high-profile gatherings, including rushing the stage at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in June this year.
The incident sparked outrage in Singapore, with several individuals accusing him of triggering past trauma for the singer.
The celebrity has discussed experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist bombing at her show in Manchester in May 2017 killed 22 individuals and injured hundreds.
In the legal process, the judge was informed he had made efforts to breach on the film's premiere on two occasions, according to regional reports.
He then made a follow-up try to breach security. Protection personnel intercepted him and restrained him.
Wen later posted video clips appreciating the celebrity for letting him on the carpet and said he was "released."
Authorities detained him the next day and charged him with public nuisance, to which the man admitted guilt.
The Court Judge the judicial official was quoted by media reports as saying that the man sought attention, commenting that he was mistaken to believe he would not suffer any consequences.
The actress has not commented on the case.
The co-star discussed the situation to the press, stating that she "only aimed to verify my colleague was protected."
"I think he had no intention to us harm, but you never know with those things, and I wanted to ensure that she was OK. That was my first instinct," she commented.
