President Donald Trump revealed on the weekend that he has invited the relatives of a National Guard member killed last week to attend the White House.

He added that he conversed with her family and they were “heartbroken”.

Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a shooting on Wednesday in Washington DC.

Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Gatherings across West Virginia have occurred in their remembrance.

White House Offer

The president stated he’s talked about a White House visit for the loved ones of both individuals of the state Guard.

“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to honor her,” Trump addressed reporters. “And similarly with him, no matter the outcome.”

Public Reaction

Mourners assembled over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to honor Beckstrom.

Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the military unit as part of Trump’s national effort to support law enforcement in Washington DC.

Remembering the Soldier

“She was the type of pupil that instructors wished for. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a positive energy that lifted people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of her former high school, told the media. “She was kind, considerate and always willing to support those in need.”

Memorial plans for Beckstrom are still being arranged.

Legal Actions and Government Adjustments

Officials have charged a 29-year-old Afghan national with one count of first-degree murder and charges of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.

The incident led the Trump administration to suspend asylum processing and halt granting entry permits to owners of Afghan passports.

Status of Wolfe

The airman, a resident of the city, enlisted in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, as reported by the Associated Press.

He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, the state’s governor Morrisey said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.

The state’s top lawyer the attorney general informed the program that she aimed to meet with his relatives.

Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County high school in 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a MP with distinction, according to the state guard.

“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had courage,” Morrisey addressed the audience at the service. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
