Almost 55,000 homes have so far been affected by the weather, with their possessions and shelters ruined.

Heavy rains over the recent period have worsened the extremely difficult living conditions of the many hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, as stated by humanitarian agencies.

"Awful" Conditions Creates Severe Threats

A representative described the previous night's conditions as "terrible", with downpours so severe that up to 15cm (6in) of water accumulated on the streets.

"The recent weather was exceptionally difficult for the people. The storms were so intense... And the winds were so strong," said the official.

Authorities voice grave concern that minors residing in tents in wet attire will succumb to hypothermia and other ailments.

Deaths and Widespread Destruction

Health authorities have confirmed that one baby has passed away from hypothermia and no fewer than 11 other people have died in roof cave-ins caused by the harsh conditions.

Further statements put a higher death toll. Authorities reported that multiple residential buildings had collapsed completely and dozens had been partly destroyed.

  • Nearly 55,000 families impacted by the weather.
  • More than 40 official shelters inundated.
  • Many people compelled to relocate again.

Relief Operations Deemed Inadequate

Organizations have escalated deliveries of tarpaulins, bedding and garments following the halt in hostilities began, but they have said there is still not enough aid entering.

"Agencies are striving constantly to provide that aid and to allocate it, but the size of the requirements is so immense that we are faced with a great number of people and children who are truly suffering every night," warned one representative.

Long-Term Concerns and Agreement Terms

The next stage of the truce involves proposals for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with political arrangements, the withdrawal of military forces, and other conditions.

Humanitarian organizations have highlighted the imperative for "increased and sustained aid to respond to immediate and long-term requirements."

The conflict was triggered by an offensive in October 2023. Later campaigns have caused a significant number of fatalities in the area, based on health ministry figures.
